Rivals and friends: Selvie, Jenkins nab All-American honors
First, college coaches voted South Florida defensive standouts George Selvie and Mike Jenkins as the best in the nation.
Now Rivals.com has followed suit.
Selvie, a sophomore defensive end, was named a first team All-American by the online sports source and Jenkins, a senior cornerback and Bradenton native, made the second team.
Selvie and Jenkins are the first NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) All-Americans in USF's history. They were both named first team All-American by the America Football Coaches Association last week.
Both are in contention for consensus All-America honors, which means a first-team selection on the team produced by the AFCA, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, Walter Camp Foundation and The Sporting News.
Selvie and Rutgers running back Ray Rice are the only Big East selections on the Rivals' first team.
Selvie is currently a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award, given to college football's top defensive end. He has led all NCAA FBS players in tackles for loss all season and currently is just a half-tackle for loss away from the NCAA record of 31.5. He also has 14.5 sacks, second in the NCAA.
Jenkins is considered the top NFL prospect at the cornerback position. The lock-down defender has 38 tackles, three interceptions and 12 pass breakups.
