Bruce Beck Named 2007 New York State Sportscaster of the Year
Bruce Beck, the host of Inside Rutgers Football and Inside Rutgers Basketball, has been named the 2007 New York State Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Beck will receive the honor on May 5 at the 49th awards ceremony and banquet in Salisbury, N.C., home of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame.
Beck is the weekend sports anchor for WNBC-4 and also files numerous sports reports for the station's various weekday newscasts. The versatile sportscaster has covered a multitude of events for Newschannel 4, including the NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals, World Series, U.S. Open Tennis Championship, U.S. Open Golf Championship, the AFC and NFC Championship Games, NCAA Final Four, the 2004 Summer Olympic Games from Athens, Greece, and the 2002 Olympic Winter Games from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Beck has received seven New York Sports Emmys, one Mid-Atlantic Sports Emmy, and three national Cable Ace Awards. A graduate of Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., Beck received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1978. He currently resides in Scarsdale, N.Y., with his wife and two sons.
