Giants to work out a few locals

The Giants will bring in and work out a handful of local draft hopefuls on Friday, though most of them (if not all) will probably be undrafted free agents. There will be no RB Ray Rice or OL Jeremy Zuttah, who will both likely give Rutgers their second and third first-day picks in the past two drafts. Ray Rice has no visit scheduled with the Giants as of now while Zuttah had a private workout with the team three weeks ago, according to his agent.

At Friday's workout, the biggest name will be Columbia QB Craig Hormann, who worked out for the Giants once already at Wagner's pro day. Hormann, a native of Indianapolis, worked out for the Colts recently. He might have a chance as fourth QB in camp who could fight for that third roster spot.

Among the others who will participate in the workout, according to their agents, are:

*Maine FB Anthony Cotrone (6-2, 253). I watched film of this kid and he's an absolute animal on the field, always blocking to (and through) the whistle. He's not a true fullback because in college he was used in the slot and in motion. He could be more of an H-back in the NFL and will need some work on his blocking technique, but he's got a chance.

*Hofstra ILB Gian Villante (6-1¾, 252). He ran a 4.59 40-yard dash and put up 30 reps on the bench at his pro day. Had 410 tackles in his career with the pride.

*Hofstra CB Kyle Arrington (5-9½, 192). Ran a 4.38 40 at his pro day, which could be enough for him to get some buzz as an undrafted FA.

*Hofstra DT Shemiah LeGrande (6-0, 288). Undersized tackle who recently worked out for the Colts.

There will be others at the workout, but these are the only ones I've confirmed so far. If I hear of more, I'll let you know.

Oh, and none of these workouts count against the team's 30 permitted visits because they're all players who are either from the Giants' designated local area or play for schools in said area. (Cotrone is from Long Island.)

Mike Waufle got his parade last month. Now, it's Plaxico Burress' turn. Burress' hometown of Virginia Beach will honor him and his SB-winning TD with a parade this weekend.
