Big Weekend for future Scarlet Knight

This past weekend, Rutgers-bound Marvin Booker celebrated several monumental achievements in his young life. He was not only selected to represent New Jersey in this year's All-Star Classic, but he also ushered in his eighteenth birthday. These achievements come a little more than a month after Booker inked his letter of intent to Rutgers University.

In the meantime, Booker has been spending most of his days gearing up for the future. He offered a quick glimpse into his weekly routine.

"I've been training, working out, going up to Rutgers, running a little bit. I've been working the same regimen, just working out, eating right, taking my supplements, trying to get my rest and hitting the books."

Booker is one of eight Scarlet Knights to be selected as a part of a New Jersey team that will face a team of New York all-stars this June. Going into the game, Booker is aware that there will be more on display than just a vast assemblage of talent.

"It's going to be exciting to see what type of defensive players we have," said Booker. "Who's going to bring the moral? Everybody can hit, everybody can run, everybody's fast and everybody can lift weights. But who has the heart and drive to finish a game and be a leader out on the field?"

When asked if he did indeed possess that heart and drive, Booker answered confidently.

"Of course, I think that's my biggest aspect of the game. I'm not the most talented person and I can admit that. But I work hard and I have the drive to get the job done."

A linebacker in high school, Booker has been informed that he could remain at that spot or make the switch to strong safety when he arrives at Rutgers.

"We're still seeing how it goes," Booker stated. "I'm going to work on my body and work on everything possible. Wherever they want me to play, I'll play. It's coming faster than I expected, but it's what I've asked for the past four years of my life so I'm going to make the best of it."

Booker won't have to travel very far when he and the rest of this year's incoming freshman report to campus on June 25th. For the second straight year, the Scarlet Knights will welcome another Piscataway product.

"I can get a dinner on Sundays, so that's real good," Booker laughed. "But Rutgers is the spot for me. It's all about gaining respect, so I think I'm going to fit in good. It's a blessing to be able to play D1 football anywhere. I'm just going to take it day by day and run with it."

It is at the Division 1 level where Booker will be reunited with former high school teammate Anthony Davis, even though they'll be lining up on opposite sides of the ball. Davis has already informed Booker about the rigors of training camp, yet the soon-to-be freshman is ready to jump right into the thick of things.

"I was just with Anthony yesterday. We hang out all the time. He's like my brother. I know camp is going to be hard. There ain't no way to dip or dodge, you just got to go right through it."
